Recover your profile on a new system
The best way to recover your Diode Collab profile on a new system is to link a device or restore from Backup Code. That authorizes the new device to re-join the Zones it is a member of. Chat history, files, and the rest then re-propagate from the other Zone members.
Recover a Zone with no other active members
Sometimes you need chat history and files from a Zone that no longer has any other active members. Those will not re-propagate from the network.
- Start your identity on the new system with a Backup Code or a Linked Device, as above.
- Copy the Zone folder you want to restore from the old hard drive to the new one.
- Mount the Zone folder with the Restore process used to move a Zone folder to a different disk.
Bring the identity up first, then Restore the folder. Do not Restore a Zone folder onto a device that is not yet that identity.
Copy the original profile folder
If you do not have a Linked Device and you do not have a Backup Code, but you do have the original profile folder, you can try putting that folder in place on the new computer:
- Install Diode Collab on the new computer, then quit it.
- Remove the new computer’s profile folder.
- Copy the old profile folder into the profile folder's location.
- Open Diode Collab. If you set a Device PIN, enter it.
